1. Who is eligible to play in Fullerton NJB?
- A player must be a resident of Fullerton and attend a school in the Fullerton School
District to be eligible to play in Fullerton. If a player lives in an adjacent city that has no
NJB program they may be eligible to play in Fullerton NJB. Currently the adjacent cities of
Anaheim, Brea, La Habra, Placentia, and Yorba Linda have NJB programs.
2. What expenses do the registration fees cover?
- The major expenses paid from the registration fees are gym rental, referees, NJB
sanction fee, uniforms, scorekeepers (effective 2010-11), trophies, and team pictures.
3. Why do teams need to pay a sponsor fee?
- The registration fees do not cover the complete cost of the program so each team is
asked to solicit a business sponsorship of $225.
4. Are there additional expenses beyond the registration and sponsor fees?
- Many teams decide to rent an indoor gym for practices such as the Independence Park
Gym and pay an hourly fee for the gym. The team is responsible for this cost.
Effective in the 2010-11 season, teams will no longer pay a scorekeeper fee of $10 per
game. This cost has been added to the registration fee.
5. What times are Fullerton NJB Games played on Sundays during the Winter Season?
- Most boys divisional games and girls home games are played between noon and 7:30
p.m. in Fullerton gyms.
- Girls away games are played in other North Orange County cities and the games can vary
between 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
6. What gyms do the teams play in ?
- The boys divisional games and girls home games are assigned to the following gyms by
division: Troy High South, Fullerton High South, Sunny Hills High, Ladera Vista Jr. High.
- Most girls away games are played in Brea, La Habra, Placentia, and Yorba Linda.
7. Are the Fullerton NJB coaches screened and experienced in coaching basketball?
- All coaches are approved by the Board, fingerprinted, attend coach clinics, and in most
cases have coached at various levels. Each year a few new coaches join who are
normally teamed with a more experienced coach.
8. Can my son or daughter play on the same team as their friend?
- Each player is evaluated on evaluation day which is normally the first Sunday of
October. Based on the evaluation players are drafted similar to an NFL draft to ensure
parity on the teams. There is no guarantee two friends will be on the same team.
9. What volunteer time is required from parents?
- Parents are expected to volunteer time in a number of ways such as coaching, being a
team parent, assist Board for events, and become of Board member.
10. When does the Winter Season end?
- The Winter Season ends in mid-February, however, some teams participate in a two week
post-season tournament and some players are selected to play in All-Stars which can go to
mid April.
11. What is the benefit of playing in NJB versus other local basketball programs?
- Fullerton NJB is a charter member of NJB and has been in existence for 25 years serving
the community and thousands of players over the years. It is sponsored by a National NJB
program which certifies referees, coaches, and Board members. Clinics are provided for
coaches, referees, and players. Fullerton NJB has been able to keep its' registration fees
among the lowest in Orange County through sound financial management.
12. Can my son or daughter play NJB during the Spring, Summer, and Fall?
- Yes, National NJB hosts programs all year round and these programs are listed on the
website at www.njbl.org. Fullerton NJB only runs a Winter League from November to
February each year.
